“I Believe” tags on fast-track to Governors desk.
Earlier this week, the SC House passed a measure allowing the state Department of Motor Vehicles to create tags that show a cross on a stained glass window and read “I Believe.”
After a similar effort in Florida failed last month because of fears it would not pass constitutional muster, SC legislators are now walking us right into a costly tax-payer funded court battle.
Honestly, we have no problem with anyone who chooses to display their ignorance on their tags if they’re willing to pay for the vanity plates.
But problem we have with the measure is the fact that it singles out the tag from other special interests, seeing as any private group with $4000 or 400 prepaid orders can get one for their organization under a 2006 law. The whole way they’re going about this is backwards, considering the act of the government legislating a specific religious tag into existence essentially creates a constitutional issue.
If the tags make it to the highways this fall, we have a feeling they’re opening a can of worms they may regret. Rev. BigDumbChimp just posted some amusing photo-shopped versions of the ill-fated Florida version of the plates today.
We’d easily find 400 people or be able raise $4000 to get an “I Believe” tag with a rendering of the Lizard Man or the FSM on it.

Oh I am ready for my FSM tag. We need to kick this into high gear so I don’t have to get an “In Reason We Trust” tag to hold me over.

We definitely would have waited too, but that won’t stop us from dropping another $30 on the FSM plate in accordance with His Noodliness.

Someone should contact the church and let them know we need to mobilize some serious Pastafarian support down here.
Fuck it… I’ll do it.
